Description
The balustrade from the Villa Borghese in Rome is located to the south of Cliveden and was erected in 1896 by Viscount Astor, coming from the south forecourt of the Casino. It features alternating sections of red Roman brick and stone balusters set between stone piers. The balustrade has a moulded stone cornice rail and includes two sections with a central break. At the ends, there are square two-tier stone piers, with the central two supporting stone statues and fountains that have shell-shaped basins below. The balustrade was designed by G di Gincome and P Massoni in 1618, while the statues, created by French artists Poirier and Cayot, date from around 1715.
