Description
The stable buildings at Cliveden, built in 1861 by Henry Clutton, are a notable example of 19th-century architecture. They feature heavy cement rendering and slate-hipped roofs adorned with elaborate finials. The design includes a moulded cornice and string courses, with upper windows that break into the roof, showcasing heavy surrounds and curved pediments supported by side consoles. The ground floor has carriage and garage entrance doors. Dominating the yard is a very large square clock tower, which has four balustraded balconies positioned below the four clock faces, with the clocks set in elaborate bronze surrounds. At the top of the tower is an Italianate turret. Flanking the tower are open loggias with iron screens.
