Description
The Firs is a house that dates from the late 16th to 17th century, originally consisting of two bays. It was extended by one bay to the west in the late 17th century and by another bay to the east in the 19th century. The north side features a timber frame with curved braces in the central bays and whitewashed brick infill, while the 19th-century bay and the south front are also made of whitewashed brick. The house has a thatched roof that is hipped to the east, with brick chimneys flanking the central bays. It is two storeys tall with an attic. The north front has irregular paired casements and sash windows, with two doors in the left-hand bays; the left door is half-glazed and panelled, while the door in the second bay is from the 20th century. The south side has irregular sash windows and a lobby entry between the right-hand bays. Inside, the entry, staircase, and open fireplace are aligned, and a room on the ground floor features a stop-chamfered spine beam and joists. There is also a 20th-century flat-roofed extension with metal casements to the west.
