Description
Barracks Farmhouse is a house that dates from the late 16th to 17th century, originally consisting of two bays, which were extended by one bay to the north and to the rear in the 18th to 19th centuries. The front was refronted in the 19th century. The original bays are timber framed, with some of the frame partly exposed at the rear. The extensions and the front wall are made of brick, featuring some chequer brick and rubble stone on the north gable. The house has an old tile roof and brick chimneys located on the left gable and between the right-hand bays.
It is two storeys tall with an attic and has three bays. The west front features 19th-century three-light wooden casements. There is a lobby entry between the right-hand bays, which includes a half-glazed door and a gabled brick porch with wavy bargeboards. All ground floor openings have cambered heads. The attic contains windows in the gables and a paired leaded casement in the rear dormer. Additionally, there is a single-storey extension to the north and a lean-to at the rear. Inside, the farmhouse has a large double-sided fireplace with moulded stone Tudor arches.
