Description

Old Oaks is a house dating from the late 16th century, which has been altered over time. It features a timber-frame construction with close studding on the ground floor and a jettied first floor. The ground floor has been partially infilled with 20th-century brick, which is partly colourwashed. The right gable and the ground floor of the left gable were rebuilt in the 17th century using rubble stone, while the upper part of the right gable is now covered in colourwashed roughcast. The house has an old tile roof that is hipped to the left, with brick chimneys located at the gables and between the right-hand bays.

The building is two storeys high with an attic and consists of three bays. It features irregular 20th-century leaded windows, with three lights in the left-hand bays, two lights in the lower right, and two single lights in the upper right. There is a lobby entry between the right-hand bays, which has a lintel with a four-centred arch that has been altered. A 20th-century attic dormer is present on the left side, along with 20th-century extensions in colourwashed brick at the rear, set back to the left.

Inside, the ground floor room on the left has moulded cross beams and a fireplace with a moulded Tudor arch above a wooden lintel. There is also a stone fireplace on the first floor with moulded jambs and a chamfered lintel, as well as another large open fireplace at the right end. The roof includes curved windbraces.
