Description

Touchbridge Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with alterations and extensions made in the early to mid-19th century. The 17th to 18th century wing on the northwest side is constructed of thin brick in English bond, featuring a plinth and a first-floor band course. It has a hipped old tile roof and a brick chimney with a pilaster at the southwest corner. The building has two storeys and an attic, with three bays. The windows are irregular 3-pane sashes, and there are several blocked openings. The central bay contains small windows, mostly blocked, with segmental heads. A dormer window on the west side of the central bay has a sash in a blocked doorway, and the attic storey has been rebuilt with tile-hung sides, a hipped roof, and paired barred wooden casements. There is a blocked doorway with a segmental head at the northeast end. Inside this wing, there is a narrow central bay with a winder staircase leading to the first floor and closet space behind. The south bay has a corner fireplace that has been altered, while a similar fireplace in the north bay has been removed. There is no clear indication of an original kitchen. The early 19th-century wing to the east forms an L-shape and is made of pale brick with dentil eaves and a tiled roof. It has two storeys and one and a half bays, with barred wooden casements and a 20th-century door to the left. To the right, there is a single-storey extension made of greensand rubble, featuring two paired barred wooden casements. This area includes a former dairy and scullery at the rear.
