Touchbridge Farmhouse

House. Late C17-early C18, altered and extended early-mid C19. C17-C18 wing to N.W. is of thin brick in English bond with plinth and first floor band course. Hipped old tile roof, brick chimney with pilaster at S.W. corner. 2 storeys and attic, 3 bays. Irregular 3-pane sash windows and blocked openings. Centre bay has small windows, mostly blocked, with segmental heads, and dormer window to W. E. side of central bay has sash in blocked doorway, and rebuilt attic storey with tile-hung sides, hipped roof, and paired barred wooden casement. Blocked doorway with segmental head at N.E. end. Interior of this wing has narrow central bay with winder staircase to first floor and closet space behind. Corner fireplace, now altered, in S. bay. Similar fireplace in N. bay has been removed. There is no obvious site for an original kitchen. Early C19 wing to E. forms L-plan and is of pale brick with dentil eaves and tiled roof. 2 storeys, 1½ bays. Barred wooden casements, C20 door to left. Single storey extension to right, of greensand rubble with 2 paired barred wooden casements. Former dairy and scullery to rear.
