Description
Barton Colyers is a farmhouse that has been converted into a private house. It dates from the 17th century or earlier and has been partly encased in red brick in the 18th century. The building features a timber frame that is infilled or cased in red brick, topped with a steep old red tile roof, which steps up beyond the chimney on the southern half. The house is two stories tall, with an attic, and faces west. It has a two-story gabled front porch and a small gabled timber porch added to shelter the entrance. A tall central chimney has four conjoined diagonal shafts. The layout follows a lobby entrance plan, with three windows across the front and a battened door in a moulded surround within the porch. The windows are casement style. The northern part of the house displays an exposed close-studded timber frame on the first floor, while the southern half has attics and features a clasped purlin roof.
