Description

Brewers House with attached buildings is a house, shop, and former brewery that is now part of a hotel. It dates from the 18th century and has been altered. The building is constructed of red brick and features an old tile roof with stacks located to the left of center and at the right end. It has a brick dentil eaves cornice and is two storeys high. The façade consists of three bays of old sash windows set in reveals, with painted wood lintels and sills. The ground floor is irregular, featuring a glazed door to the left of center, with a square bay window on each side topped with hipped roofs. The right bay has a sash window and a three-light casement with a segmental arched head. The building has a double pile plan with two gables facing west, each featuring a four-pane wide upper sash. There is a modern garage and shop obscuring the ground floor. A two-storey painted brick link with a tiled hipped roof connects to the former brewery, now known as Bell Court, which is a three-storey building from the 19th century. This building has two gables facing Green End Street, a carriage arch with a heavy surround and keyblock, and a lunette recess in the gable. The property is included for its group value.
