Description
The Church of St. Michael and All Angels is a parish church that dates from the 14th and 15th centuries and has been restored. It is constructed of flint with some clunch and limestone dressings, while the east wall is cement rendered. The church features an embattled west tower and aisles, along with a chancel and north and south porches, the latter of which was raised to two storeys in the 19th century. The nave, chancel, and porches have steep tiled roofs. The aisles contain square-headed 15th-century windows, while the chancel has pointed traceried 14th-century windows, all of which have been restored.
Inside, the church has three bay arcades, with the south arcade dating from the 13th century and the north arcade from the 14th century. The piers are alternately octagonal and circular, with the south arcade featuring broaches at the bases of the arches. The 14th-century chancel aisle includes ornate sedilia, a piscina, and an 'Easter Sepulchre' recess opposite, all adorned with ogee arches. There is also a 14th-century tower arch, and the upper part of the tower was built in 1800. A fragment of wall painting can be found in the chancel.
