Description
Post Office Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century. It is constructed of limestone rubble and has a graduated stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and features three first-floor windows, with a projecting outshut bay on the left side. There is a four-panel door located in a 20th-century trellised wooden porch to the right of the center, accompanied by a two-light flat-faced mullion window to the left and a blocked recessed chamfered window further left. The other windows consist of 16-pane or 4-pane sashes set in plain surrounds. A large ridge stack is positioned to the left of the center, with an end stack on the left side. The outshut includes a board door and a square opening on the front, while a 20th-century door on the right side now serves as the entrance to the post office. Although the interior was not inspected during the re-survey, the presence of the blocked 17th-century window and the large stack suggests the building's early origins. The stonework coursing continues to the nearby Constabulary House, indicating that this structure may have originally been part of a larger range, possibly consisting of a house and a barn.
