Description
The King's Arms Hotel, part of The Manor House, dates from around 1767 and was built for John Pratt. It features a rubble construction with a stone slate roof and stands three storeys high with three bays, including a rear wing. The first bay has a five-panel door set in a round-arched architrave supported by plinths, with imposts and a tripartite keystone. To the right of the door, there is a mounting block with four steps attached to the wall. The windows are set in architraves, with sash windows that have glazing bars on the ground and first floors, and 9-pane unequally-hung sashes on the second floor. A large chimney stack is located at the right end of the building.
Inside, the ground-floor lounge features panelling from various periods, and there is an 18th-century fireplace in the rear bar. A cantilevered limestone staircase is present, along with 18th-century panelling and a cornice in the first-floor dining room. There is also an 18th-century turned-baluster staircase leading from the first to the second floors.
