Description
The Wool Room is a building that dates from the late 18th century to the early 19th century and is now partly used as a garage. It is constructed from rubble with a stone slate roof and has two storeys. The west elevation features two first-floor windows, while the ground floor has a doorway to the left and a 12-pane window. There are also two small openings on the first floor. The north elevation consists of a long range with external steps leading up to the first floor, and there are large 20th-century openings on the ground floor. Fleeces were brought to the Wool Room from the surrounding farms for excise purposes, and access was likely through Robinson's Gateways. This building is a rare survival that represents the historically significant Wensleydale woollen and knitting industries and is included for its group value.
