Description
Hetton House is a house dating from the late 18th century, with alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries and origins from the mid-17th century. It is constructed of slobbered rubble with stone dressings and has a stone slate roof. The house features a central staircase plan and is two storeys high with three bays. The central entrance has a plain surround and an open pediment, leading to a 20th-century half-glazed door. On the left side, there is a bay window dating from around 1900. The right side has ground floor and three upper floor windows, all with plain surrounds and sashes that include glazing bars. An upper floor string course runs along the building, and there are gable end coping and kneelers, as well as shaped eaves modillions. The right gable end and left ridge have stacks. To the right, there is a recessed bay with an entrance featuring a plain surround, a pulvinated frieze, and a dripstone. Above this entrance is a modern panel in an early 18th-century style inscribed: I P Doni S P 17.35. The right-hand return has an upper floor entrance with a reused Tudor arched lintel inscribed: 1664 A W. The interior is not accessible.
