Description

Gorton Farmhouse, along with its coach-house, stables, and garden wall, dates back to 1776. The building is constructed from coursed sandstone and features a stone slate roof. The farmhouse, coach-house, and carriage-horse stable are all under one roof, which is accented by quoins, shaped kneelers, and copings.

The structure is two storeys high and has a rear outshut attached to the house. The farmhouse has three bays and ashlar surrounds around its openings. The central entrance is a four-panel door, and there are sash windows with glazing bars. The ends of the building have stacks for chimneys.

To the left of the farmhouse is the coach-house and carriage-horse stable. On the ground floor, there is a coach opening with voussoirs forming a segmental arch, double board doors, and a circular window in an ashlar surround. There is also a stable doorway with a board door, which is framed in ashlar. On the first floor, there is another circular window in an ashlar surround, featuring diagonal glazing bars. Further to the left, there are single-storey stables built in two sections, which include two board doors, a board door in an ashlar surround, and a three-pane semi-circular window with an ashlar surround.

In front of the house, the garden wall has a bee-bole to the left and is topped with flag coping.
