Description
Ivy Cottages comprises three cottages, now combined into two dwellings, built in the early 19th century, with a later addition around 1830. The cottages are constructed of rubble with a stone slate roof. The cottage on the right is likely the earlier build, dating to around 1810-1820. It has two bays, arranged in a double range. A central Regency doorcase features Tuscan columns on bases with acanthus leaf capitals, a simple entablature, cornice, and a pediment, sheltering a six-panel door below a fanlight with radial glazing bars. The windows are sash windows set within plain ashlar surrounds. A shaped kneeler is visible, along with ashlar coping to the right, and end stacks. At the rear is a round-headed sash window with interlaced glazing bars, set in an ashlar surround with imposts and a keystone. The cottage on the left, originally divided into two dwellings and dated 1830, has three bays and ashlar surrounds to the openings, with vertical tooling. A doorway between the first and second bays contains a 20th-century part-glazed door. A further doorway to the right has a plain surround built on plinth blocks, above which is an inscription reading 'EAK' over a board door. Sash windows are present throughout, with the exception of a 20th-century casement window on the ground floor to the left. Shaped kneelers, ashlar coping to the left, and end and ridge stacks between the second and third bays are also notable features.
