Description
Belle Isle is a building that combines a house and a cottage under one roof, now functioning as a house and an outbuilding. It dates from the early 19th century and is constructed of coursed sandstone with a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys.
The house features three first-floor windows with ashlar surrounds. The central entrance has a four-panel door set within a classical doorcase, which includes plinths and a simple entablature. The name 'BELLE-ISLE' is painted on the frieze above the door. There is an earlier keystone resting on the cornice, inscribed with 'J7 07' G FM. A 20th-century glazed porch has been added, and there is a 20th-century canted bay window to the left of the door, while the other windows are sashes. The house has end stacks.
The cottage, located on the right, has one first-floor window. On the ground floor, it features a boarded door, a fixed-light window with 20 panes, and a low fire window with a stone surround. The first floor has a four-pane sash window in an ashlar surround, and there is a shaped kneeler to the right.
In front of the building, there is a small garden enclosed by a rubble wall with ashlar coping. The gate-piers to the house are monolithic ashlar obelisks, while the gate-piers to the cottage are shorter obelisks set on the wall. Similar obelisks are placed at intervals along the railings, which are short cast-iron with finial tops on the bars.
