Description

Town Head Cottage is a building that likely dates back to the 16th century, with later alterations. It includes a former Dame School at the north end, which may have been converted from earlier outbuildings in 1859, as indicated by a panel with the initials S.W. The structure is built of slobbered rubble with quoins on the school section. The cottage features a graduated stone flag roof, while the school has a graduated slate roof.

The cottage is two storeys high and has four bays. It has a low plank door with two casement windows to the left and one to the right on each floor. The school section has two bays and is set slightly forward of the cottage. It features a plank door on the right for each floor, with stone steps leading up to the first-floor door, and a casement window with the dated panel to the left. All windows have glazing bars. A large corbelled stone chimney is located at the south end of the cottage, while the school has a rendered chimney at its south end. In front of the cottage, there is a coursed, squared rubble area wall approximately 3 feet high.
