Description
High Chapel United Reformed Church is a United Reformed Church founded in 1662, with the current building completed in 1726. New windows were inserted around 1868, and there have been later additions and alterations, including a wing added to the rear at the south end. The church is constructed of slobbered rubble and features graduated slate roofs. It is a single tall storey with five bays. There is a 20th-century plank ground-floor door set in a segment-headed doorcase. To the right, there are three tall semicircular-headed windows and a similar shortened window above, all featuring projecting keystones and imposts within stone surrounds. All windows have glazing bars. Steps lead up to a 20th-century plank gallery door, which has remains of an inscription on the lintel to the left. The rear elevation has blocked original windows. The roof is adorned with stone copings and kneelers, a gabled bellcote at the south end, and a finial at the north.
