Description
Clapdale Farmhouse is a farmhouse that is believed to date back to the 15th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is finished in pebbledash with stone dressings and has a stone slate roof. It stands two storeys high and consists of four bays.
The entrance, located to the right of the centre, features chamfered surrounds and a six-panel door, with the upper two panels being glazed. To the left of the entrance on the ground floor, there are two 2-light flat faced mullioned windows, with the leftmost window having its right-hand light cut out to create a 20th-century door. These windows have slate dripstones above them. To the right of the entrance, there is a single light window with sashes and glazing bars. Between the two floors, there is a 2-light chamfered mullioned window with leaded fixed lights.
On the upper floor to the left, there are two more 2-light flat faced mullioned windows, also with slate dripstones. Above the entrance, under the eaves, is a small single-light chamfered window with leaded fixed lights. The building features gable end ridge stacks, with the left stack being massive and stepped, and another ridge stack located to the right of centre.
At the rear of the right-hand return, there is a small turret with a square base and rounded corners on the upper part. Inside, there is a doorway that is reputed to have a pointed arch.
