Description
CLAPHAM-CUM-NEWBY CLAPDALE SD 77 SE 4/1 Clapdale Farmhouse 20.2.58 GV II Farmhouse. Reputedly C15 with C19 and C20 alterations. Pebbledash with stone dressings, stone slate roof. 2 storeys, 4 bays. Entrance right of centre has chamfered surrounds; 6 panel door, upper 2 glazed. On ground floor to left are two 2-light flat faced mullioned windows, extreme left-hand window has right-hand light cut out to form C20 door; slate dripstones. On ground floor to right is single light window; sashes with glazing bars. Between the floors is a right-hand 2-light chamfered mullioned window; leaded fixed lights. On upper floor to left are two 2-light flat faced mullioned windows; slate dripstones. Above entrance under eaves is small single-light chamfered window with leaded fixed lights. Gable end ridge stacks, that to left is massive and stepped, ridge stack to right of centre. At the rear of the right-hand return is a small turret on a square base, with rounded corners to the upper part. An interior doorway is reputed to have a pointed arch.
