Description
High Scale Farmhouse is a farmhouse built around 1660, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from slobbered squared rubble with stone dressings and features a stone slate roof. The building has a three-cell plan and is two storeys high with four bays.
The 19th-century entrance on the left has a plain surround and a four-panel door, with the upper two panels glazed. To the left of the entrance is another door with a moulded surround and a basket arch, leading to a 20th-century door. On the ground floor, there are three windows: two are two-light windows with chamfered ovolo mullions and hoodmoulds, while the right-hand window is similar but has a missing mullion. The upper floor has four windows: the left two are two-light chamfered windows with cavetto mullions, and the others are similar but also have missing mullions. All windows have 20th-century casements. The eaves feature modillions, and there are ridge stacks on the right-hand gable and two on the ridge.
On the right-hand return, there is a chamfered angle light window with a basket arch on the upper floor. The rear of the farmhouse includes a projecting 17th-century stair turret and a 19th-century kitchen extension.
Inside, there is a late 17th-century staircase with an entrance that has a cavetto surround and a basket arch. The four-panel door has fluted styles and moulded top and middle rails, along with a small staircase window.
