Description

This is a milestone located approximately 300 metres west of Hardraw Beck, dating from the late 19th century. It is made of cast iron and has a triangular shape. On the left side, there is a hand pointing left with the inscription "SEDBERGH 15 MILES," and on the right side, a hand pointing right with the inscription "ASKRIGG 5 MILES." The top of the milestone features "ASKRIGG H D." This milestone was installed after the Highways Act of 1888 and has been positioned on the wrong side of the road.
