Description

This milestone, located approximately 5 metres east of the turning to Sedbusk on the Sedbergh-Askrigg Road, dates from the late 19th century. It is made of cast iron and has a triangular shape. On the left side, there is a hand pointing left with the inscription "SEDBERGH 16 MILES," and on the right side, a hand pointing right with "ASKRIGG 4 MILES." At the top, it reads "ASKRIGG H D." This milestone was created after the Highways Act of 1888, but it has been placed on the wrong side of the road.
