Description
Cocketts is a house dated 1668, with 19th-century alterations, located on the north side of Hawes Market Place. It was built for Thomas Fawcett, a Quaker. The structure features coursed rubble and a stone slate roof, standing two storeys high with four first-floor windows. The right side has quoins.
On the ground floor, there is a sash window with chamfered jambs, a 20th-century six-panel door set in a slab surround, paired sash windows, and a board door in a quoined ashlar surround with a moulded arris and a four-centred arched head. The lintel is inscribed with "ANO A DOM 1668 GOD BEING WITH US WHO CAN BE AGAINST T F". The first floor includes a sash window with chamfered jambs, a 20th-century sash, paired sashes, and a small sash. There are stacks at both ends and in the center of the building.
