Description
Jenny Well House with adjoining barn is a house and barn built in 1784, marked by the initials G. G. on the lintel of the former stable, which is now a garage. The barn is likely from the same period. The house may be older and was remodeled and expanded in the Gothic style during the 19th century. The original structure is made of stone, while later alterations and additions are in snecked rubble with quoins. The barn is constructed of slobbered rubble with quoins. Both buildings have graduated slate roofs; the house features stone copings and kneelers.
The house has a 'T'-shaped plan and is two stories tall with four bays and a cross-wing. The original entrance is located in the north gable, featuring a plank door in a chamfered surround. The east elevation includes an added gabled porch with a studded plank door in a surround with a four-centred head. A full-height projecting chimney is present, along with a full-height canted bay on the east gable of the cross-wing. Most windows are casements, primarily multi-light, set in stone surrounds with mullions and, in some cases, transoms. Some windows are diamond-leaded. The south elevation has two dormer windows and an eaves chimney stack.
The barn, which is a single tall storey, adjoins the house to the north and features a depressed wagon arch at the junction, leading to a courtyard. The east elevation has a blocked doorway and a small casement, with vent slits between them. The garage is altered and does not hold special interest.
