Description

This barn, located approximately 5 meters north-west of East Banks Farmhouse, is likely from the early 18th century and has been altered and extended over time. It is constructed of roughly-coursed sandstone rubble and features a stone slate roof. The barn has a long rectangular shape aligned on a north-south axis, forming the west side of the farmyard, with a 20th-century shippon added to the rear.

The east front of the barn includes a continuous stone slate drip-course and a low segmental-headed wagon archway in the center, although the right-hand side of this archway is now blocked. To the right of the archway, there are two square-headed shippon doorways; the first is paired with a square window to its left, while the second has a square unglazed window above it. Small square breathers are present above the drip course, and the south end of the barn is built into a rising slope.

Inside, there is a wagon doorway opposite the front entrance, which is now covered by the 20th-century shippon. Lateral partitions are located to the north of the wagon entrances, and the roof features early 18th-century collar trusses. A chimney-breast is built against the north gable wall. This barn forms a group with East Banks Farmhouse and a stable located approximately 10 meters north of East Banks Farmhouse.
