Description

Stock Hill House and Barn is a former house and barn that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early 19th century, with alterations from the late 19th century and origins that trace back to the late 17th century. The building is constructed of slobbered rubble with stone dressings and features a stone slate roof. It has a gable end facing the street and is two storeys high. Originally double fronted, it now has an outer bay of identical style added to the left. The entrance is set within a late 19th-century porch made of rusticated stone, featuring chamfered jambs and a hipped roof. All the windows have projecting plain surrounds and 16-pane sash windows. The eaves are shaped with modillions. There are three equally spaced late 19th-century gabled dormers with casement windows. The gable end has ridge stacks, with one ridge stack located left of centre at the position of the former left-hand gable. The former barn to the right is from the 19th century but has late 17th-century origins. It contains an entrance with a chamfered surround and a Craven lintel inscribed with "F 16," as well as a 17th-century double chamfered two-light mullioned window marked "T E 78."
