Description

The Close is a house and former barn, dating to the 17th and early 19th centuries. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings, and has a 20th-century pantile roof with ashlar coped gables and finials. There are two brick ridge stacks. The house has flush ashlar quoins and a moulded first-floor band, forming an L-shaped plan.

The east front has an off-centre doorway with a 19th-century half-glazed door and a 20th-century wooden gabled porch. To the right is a 19th-century three-light casement window, and to the left, a four-light and a two-light ovolo mullion window in chamfered surrounds with hood moulds, followed by another 19th-century three-light casement. Above, a central two-light ovolo mullion window in a chamfered surround with a hood mould is flanked by single 20th-century fixed lights, and beyond, a single three-light mullion window. The west front features two similar two-light mullion windows on the upper floor.

The south front of the former barn includes, on the left, a single two-light casement window, followed by a fixed light, another two-light casement, and a 20th-century glazed door under a gabled porch. Further along is a carriage doorway with 19th-century plank doors.
