Description

Riston House and the former stables, now a house, date back to 1687 and were heightened and refronted in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with stone dressings and features a slate roof. It has two storeys and three bays. The central entrance has a moulded surround and includes a reset dated decorated lintel with the initials M S -- T S, leading to a five-panel door with a rectangular fanlight above. There are two ground floor and three upper floor windows, all with chamfered surrounds and 8-pane sash windows. A gable end stack is present.

The former stables are lower than the house, consisting of two storeys and two bays. The left-hand entrance features a 17th-century chamfered surround with a chamfered basket-arched head and a 20th-century door. To the right, there are former two-light chamfered windows on the ground floor, although the mullion is now missing. The upper floor has a former three-light double chamfered mullioned window, with the left-hand light blocked and the right-hand mullion also gone. Both windows have slate dripstones and 20th-century casements. The right-hand bay is a rubble addition. There is a ground floor entrance with a projecting flight of eight steps to the right, which turns left and continues for two steps into the upper floor entrance.
