Description
Town Head House is a late 18th and early 19th century house of rubble construction with stone dressings and a slate roof. The house presents a gable end to the street, with the south entrance front having two storeys and three bays. A stone plinth supports a central entrance, which features an elaborate surround of engaged Roman Doric columns, a triglyph and metope frieze, and open pediments. A round-headed fanlight sits within the tympanum above the door, and there is a six-panel door. The ground floor and upper floor windows have plain surrounds of milled stone and early 19th century sash windows. Projecting quoins are visible, and a thin wooden eaves cornice with small modillions masks the gutter. The roof has gable coping, and gable-end ridge stacks. A stone sundial base is located in the front garden, dated 1828. The base is approximately one metre high and octagonal, although the shaft, metal dial, and gnomon have been removed.
