Barn To South West Of Waitby Farmhouse

The barn located to the south-west of Waitby Farmhouse is a Grade II listed building, originally constructed as a large farmhouse in 1690, with later alterations. It is built from coursed, squared rubble and features gable ends that have been raised to support the current graduated-flag roof, which is supported by five king-post trusses marked by carpenters. The structure has two storeys and originally consisted of five bays, later extended to the west as a barn. There is a two-bay outshut at the rear.

The front of the building has three windows to the left of the door and one to the right, all beneath a continuous hoodmould with labels, although this has been partially damaged due to the enlargement of the door. There are remnants of at least four windows on the first floor and one later door that may have replaced an original window. The rear of the building retains five windows, all of which are two-light with chamfered stone surrounds and mullions, except for the right-hand window on the first floor front, which has a semicircular head and an initialled datestone above.

Internally, there is a ground-floor fireplace with a stone architrave and a corniced mantel that survives in the east wall. Later extensions to the front and rear of the barn are not included in the listing.
