Description
The barn at Hepshaw Farm, dated 1697, is a Grade II listed structure that has undergone alterations. It is constructed from coursed, squared rubble and features a stone slate roof. The barn consists of five internal bays and has a continuous outshut at the front. Notable architectural details include quoins, an entrance on the right with a chamfered, quoined surround and a Tudor-arched lintel that is dated. There are two additional entrances, likely added later, along with several small windows, some of which have early chamfered surrounds. The gable copings are hollow-chamfered and sit on moulded kneelers. At the rear, there are two square-headed cart entrances; the left one has an oak lintel while the right one has been bricked up, with later lights added to the far right. Inside, the barn features four king-post trusses with struts that are braced to the ridge. The arcade posts have reverse-curved braces connecting to the tie-beams. The arcade-plate, purlins, and rafters have been renewed, and some aisle-ties have been replaced. There is no wall plate present.
