Description
The Red House is a house located on Beccles Road in Mettingham. It was built in the early 18th century, with a late 18th-century addition on the right and a 19th-century range at the rear. The house is constructed of red brick and features a pantiled roof with glazed black tiles at the front. It has two storeys, with the original range also having an attic storey. There are five sash windows with glazing bars in flush frames, all set under flat brick arches, and scalloped blind boxes are present on all windows. A 20th-century flat-roofed brick porch leads to a wide plank door with cover battens, which is divided into two leaves. Above the first floor, there is a wooden modillion cornice. The attic storey includes three casement windows and gable stacks. The right-hand addition, which is two bays and slightly set back, features matching windows and continues the modillion cornice across at the eaves level. Inside the principal room of this addition, there are plaster wall panels, an enriched ceiling border, and a carved marble fireplace.
