Description
Alder Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century. It is constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior, topped with a pantiled roof. The building has two storeys and an attic, featuring a three-cell layout. The windows are mainly casement style and are primarily from the 19th century. There is a lobby entry with a door from the mid-20th century, and an internal stack that was heightened in the mid-20th century. To the left, there is a colourwashed brick lean-to that was formerly used as a dairy. At the top of the right gable, there is a firemark from the Sun Insurance Company. Inside, much of the floor structure is exposed, although very little of the timber frame is visible. There is a four-centre arched brick fireplace on the first floor and newel stairs.
