Description
Alder Cottage is a farmhouse that was later used as two cottages. It dates from the early 17th century and has a 19th-century red brick wing on the right, along with a rear addition built around 1929. The building is timber framed and has modern roughcast render with a thatched roof. It stands two storeys high with an attic and features a 1½ storey 19th-century wing. The main range consists of two cells, likely following an end chimney plan. The windows are casement style, with metal frames in the main range. The 19th-century wing has a mid-20th-century door and a raking dormer. The main range includes a heavy gable stack on the right and a smaller internal stack added later. Inside, much of the floor structure is exposed, showcasing some fine first-floor framing, along with two original diamond-mullioned windows. One bedroom contains a 17th-century fireplace with a depressed four-centred arch.
