Description
Benstead Farmhouse is a late 16th-century farmhouse that features a timber frame encased in brick, which is mostly colourwashed, with plastered gables. The left gable has applied timbering. The building has a slated roof and stands two storeys high with an attic. It has a three-cell layout with a cross-passage entry. There are three mid-20th century three-light casement windows without glazing bars, set under segmental arches, and a half-glazed entrance door. An internal stack is present. The main components of the frame can be seen in the upper rooms, and the hall has plain exposed joists. The original stairs have been removed. The roof structure has been renewed, and a lower parallel rear wing made of common brick has been added, likely around 1900.
