Description

Moreton House School is an early to mid-19th century house of two storeys and three windows. It forms part of a group with numbers 6 to 10. The walls are a mix of flint and brick, with a stuccoed front. The house has a low-pitched, hipped roof, now covered with renewed pantiles, with deep eaves supported by long brackets. Pilasters are located at the ends of the house and on either side of the central bay, supporting a frieze that rests on a plinth. The panels within this framework are filled with banded rustication, and a small arcaded panel sits below the centre first-floor window. The recessed sash windows have glazing bars in plain reveals; those on the ground floor have moulded architraves and cornices. A prostyle porch with square columns leads to a door consisting of two long, rounded panels with paterae. Stone balconies are present to some upstairs windows on the east side. A carriage entrance is located to the west, with a window above. Inside, a curved staircase is lit by a skylight, and features wall niches.
