Description
The Spain, comprising numbers 8 and 10, is a building with an 18th-century front, although the underlying structure may be older. It is two storeys high and has five windows in total. The roof is tiled and continuous at the front, but behind it, the roof has three parallel ridges set at right angles. A moulded cornice with a guilloche band runs along the top of the front elevation. Number 8 is constructed of red brick, while number 10 is red brick with a decorative pattern of blue headers. Number 8 has three windows, all sashes with glazing bars; the central ground-floor window has Gothic glazing. Number 10 has two windows; the ground-floor left window is blocked and painted to imitate the Gothic glazing of number 8, and the ground-floor right window is an oriel bay. The windows alternate with doors. Number 8 has a six-panel door, with the top two panels glazed, set within a wide moulded architrave and featuring a cornice hood supported by curved brackets. Number 10 has a similar door but lacks an architrave and has a plain, dentil cornice. Numbers 6 to 10 (even) form a cohesive group. The group value is derived from their collective architectural qualities and contribution to the streetscape.
