Description
Durden Lodge is a shooting lodge that has been converted into a farmhouse, dating from the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of brick and is hung with fish scale tiles, topped with a plain tile roof and features moulded brick stacks. It is two storeys high and consists of a two-bay gamekeeper's lodge with a shorter two-bay shooting lodge addition to the right. The entrance is located between the older bays, accessed through a single-storey gabled porch adorned with fish-scale tiles, an ornate bargeboard, and a three-centre arched planked door. The windows are 19th-century two-light pointed head casements with glazing bars, although the later bays have slightly larger windows. The roof has overhanging gables with ornate bargeboards, and there are pairs of octagonal moulded brick stacks on rectangular bases at both ends of the original building and on the later gable end. This lodge is a notable example of Victorian Gothic architecture.
