Description

Pound Farmhouse is a house dating from the early 18th century, with additions from the early 19th century. The walls are constructed of header bond brickwork with rubbed flat arches and stone sills, and incorporate a stone plinth. The roof is tiled and hipped. The house was built in two phases; the earlier part features a dog-leg staircase with turned balusters and a handrail, dating from around 1700. The later phase is characterized by a wide, symmetrical south front with three windows arranged over two storeys, featuring sash windows in reveals. The front door is set within a doorframe with slender pilasters and panelled reveals. A 20th-century half-glazed door is sheltered by a large, moulded canopy supported on brackets, incorporating two carved wooden angels. The west elevation, which has two windows, marks the join between the two building phases. The rear elevation includes wings projecting on either side, with the central part exhibiting English bond brickwork, a first-floor band, cambered arches to the ground floor, and an old mullion and transom window above a plain doorway. A small extension at the northeast corner features a hipped roof and boarded walls.
