Description
Clinkers is a house, originally two cottages, dating back to the 17th century. An early 19th-century block was added to the rear, and some recladding undertaken later. The timber frame is visible in the upper wall on the south side and in the north gable, with brick infill and brick walling below, constructed in a Flemish bond pattern. The remaining walls, both front and rear, are also brick in a Flemish Garden Wall bond, distinguished by blue headers at the rear. The ground-floor openings have cambered arches. The roof is thatched at the front and tiled at the rear, with half-hipped eyebrow dormers on the south side. The rear slope of the main roof, and the lower, narrower roof forming a double pile, are tiled. Large, tapered stacks are located at each end of the building. The east front has one storey and an attic, with a facade of 2 or 3 windows. Casement windows are present. Two boarded doors are set within plain frames. A former doorway on the north elevation has been filled in with a window. The uneven gables on the north elevation suggest that a catslide roof originally extended to the rear, indicating the later addition of a storey.
