Description

Morby House is a late 16th-century house, later used as a shop. It is located on the north side of High Street in Lewes. The building has 19th-century cladding and is timber-framed with tile hanging. It features a plain tiled roof with a large stack at the rear, and simple moulded bargeboards. The house has two gable ends facing the street, with jetties extending below the first and second floors, supported by painted wooden bressumers. It is three storeys high, with irregular window placement. The second floor has two windows, which are glazing bar sash windows. The first floor has three windows; a splayed bay with a glazing bar sash on the left, a central glazing bar sash, and a tripartite sash on the right. The early 19th-century shopfront has paired glazed doors on either side of a central point, and Doric columns supporting the jetty’s bressumer.
