Description

This is an early 17th-century, two-storey and attic building of timber construction, located on the south side of High Street. The roof is tiled with a fairly high pitch, and includes a hipped and gabled dormer window on the left side. A central gable bears a sliding sash window, and overhangs slightly, supported by a moulded beam with three carved pendants, marked "1613 NP". The front of the building is roughcast, with the ground floor also overhanging slightly on a moulded beam. The first floor has early 19th-century sash windows in flush moulded frames, some of which have missing glazing bars. Number 17 has an early 19th-century shop front featuring a modillioned and moulded cornice and a row of small pointed lights beneath the panes. Both first-floor windows are oriels supported by brackets. A central door is flanked by wrought iron brackets with swan head finials. A similar shop window with plain, square lights is to the right of Number 19; a round, modern oriel bay is to the left. The central door is half-glazed, with a diamond-barred rectangular fanlight under a heavy, bracketed, semi-circular hood. Numbers 15 to 19, including this building, form a notable group.
