Description
No. 11 High Street is a house that was later used as the Lewes Infirmary and Dispensary, and is now offices. It was built in 1770 and extended along Friars Walk in a similar style during the mid-20th century. The ground floor is clad in stone, while the upper floors are made of yellow brick. The building features rendered rusticated quoins, bands, and window dressings, with a rendered cornice that hides the roof. It has three storeys and a three-window front, with glazing bar sashes set in moulded surrounds. There is an arched window on the ground floor, and at the left-hand corner, there are double panelled doors set at an angle, with a moulded surround and a hood above, supported by a large decorative bracket. The central entrance has a half-glazed door in an arched surround, topped by a tall latticed transom-light. On the left return front, there are six windows with back-to-back rusticated quoins in the centre, with the left-hand part being the mid-20th century extension. The building is included for its group value.
