Description
This is a row of three shops, numbers 5, 7, and 9 Malling Street, dating from the early 19th century. The building is timber-framed and has a tile hanging with reeded frame panels. It features a wooden eaves cornice with paired brackets supporting a plain tiled roof, with brick stacks positioned to the right of centre and at the left end. The front has three windows, arranged regularly over three storeys. Most windows are glazing bar sashes within moulded wooden surrounds, with the exception of one iron-framed casement located centrally on the second floor. A heavy, continuous, flat pentice hood extends over the ground floor, supported by seven scrolled brackets, likely added in the later 19th century. The ground floor contains three 20th-century shopfronts: the shop on the right has a panelled door to the left; the central shopfront has a half-glazed door to the left; and the shop on the left has a glazed panelled door.
