Description
No 8 Market Street is a house that has been converted into a shop, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The exterior features plain and decorative tile hanging, along with a wooden eaves cornice supported by modillions, and a plain tiled roof that has a ridge stack on the right side. The building stands three storeys tall and has a two-window front. On the second floor, there are 19th-century cross casements, while the first floor has one sash window on the left and a small canted bay on the right. The ground floor has a 20th-century single shopfront on the right, with a door set in a round-arched recessed surround to the left. Originally, the building appears to have been mathematically tiled, similar to Nos 9-11 Market Street, but this was replaced with decorative tiles in the later 19th century. The property is included for its group value.
