Description

The wall and dovecote at Orchard, located 50 meters south of the Longwood Estate Office, were built around 1880 by G. Devey. The wall is made of brick with stone dressings and features a tile coping. It includes an archway and is attached to the end of a well house, sloping down from a height of 3 meters to 2.5 meters. Next to the ramp is a gateway wall that also slopes down halfway along. The dovecote, positioned at the end of the wall, is circular and constructed of flint with brick dressings, topped with an old plain tile roof. It has a single low brick door opening for access from the yard, overhanging eaves, and an octagonal cupola on top with open sides for birds to enter. The interior of the dovecote has been converted into a fruit shed, with nesting boxes replaced by shelves, although a ladder remains.
