Description
The building is a former garage located 10 yards east of No 1 High Street in Lewes. It was constructed in the late 18th century and originally served as a warehouse. The structure features a wood frame with rusticated cladding on the supports and timber infill, topped by a low slate hipped roof. It has a three-bay front with wide windows that include glazing bars between the supports, and five bays on the sides.
Inside, there is a central row of iron columnar supports and cast-iron brackets connecting the supports to the ceiling. A car-lift in the center of the building remains from its use after the First World War for placing bodies on Ford cars.
