Description

The bridge over the River Ouse, located in Cliffe, was built between 1726 and 1727 by Nicholas Dubois and was reconstructed in 1932. It is made of red brick with raised stone dressings around the arch, which is a single arch design. A stone plinth supports an early to mid-20th century cast-iron balustrade with outflying standards. The keystone on the north side of the arch is inscribed with "PEVENSEY RAPES R N. DUBOIS. SUV A. MORRIS MASON 1727," although this inscription is now not visible. Early prints of the bridge show it originally had a solid brick balustrade and stone piers. Additionally, a footway was added to the north side of the bridge in 1882.
