Description
Hall Place is a late 17th-century mansion, with wings added around 1720 and further extension and renovation work carried out around 1900. The front walls are of brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with blue headers, and are colourwashed. Other walls are of English bond. The building features a plinth, a band at first floor level, plain end pilasters, and slightly cambered brick arches with flat extrados and key stones. The roof is tiled with a moulded cornice, plaster coving, and hipped dormers.
The north front is symmetrical, with a slightly projecting central section, two storeys and an attic, and dormers above a 1-3-1 window arrangement. Sashes are used for the windows, with leaded casements in the dormers. A decorative wood doorcase, with a segmental pediment on console brackets, panelled pilasters, panelled reveals, and a six-panelled door above stone steps, provides entrance.
The west elevation, dating from around 1900 and built in a style reminiscent of Christopher Wren, features a central pediment with a lunette, two storeys, an attic, and a 2-2-2 window arrangement, with ground-floor windows extending to floor level. The south (garden) elevation is recessed in the centre, with wings extending forward, constructed with similar features but a less regular form. The east elevation overlooks a courtyard, with single-storeyed wings on either side. The east wall of the courtyard contains a central gateway, made with original features similar to the rest of the building.
