Description
Butler's Lodge at Arundel Castle is a mid-19th century former lodge constructed from Purbeck stone with Pulborough dressings. The building is two storeys high and features a slightly projecting crenellated parapet. The west corner of the lodge breaks forward slightly on both elevations. Each elevation includes a range of double-hung sash windows without glazing bars, framed by 4-centred arches set in oblong panels with chamfered embrasures. The south elevation has two additional double-hung sash windows on the first floor and one on the ground floor, all with 4-centred arches and chamfered embrasures. In the centre of the south elevation, there are two doors side by side; the eastern door has three elaborately moulded panels, and both doors have pointed fanlights set in 4-centred arches with chamfered embrasures. The remainder of the west elevation features a range of smaller 4-centred arches with chamfered embrasures framing casements with glazing bars, along with one unglazed pointed lancet. An extension to the north includes three ranges of double-hung sash windows with glazing bars.
